The Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR) is pleased to announce an open competition for the Regional Internship Programme (RIP).

The Regional Internship Programme will grant the second group of 7 interns from Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo to partake in an internship with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in the Hague in the duration of 5 months and an internship at national war crimes courts/prosecutors’ offices or local institutions and organisations dealing with war crimes in the duration of 3 months.

The Regional Internship Programme will give young people an opportunity both to learn about international humanitarian law and the ICTY’s practice, and to transfer that knowledge to the national jurisprudence through volunteering at local institutions and organisations. Upon completion of the Programme interns will design the strategy for promotion of the ICTY and national war crimes trials and they will be engaged in the YIHR’s educational and training programmes.

In the first stage of the Programme, the internship was organised for 8 interns, while in the second stage a total of 7 interns (4 interns from Serbia, 2 from Kosovo and 1 from Montenegro) will take part in the Programme.

At the ICTY participants will complete their internship with one of its three organs: Chambers, Office of the Prosecutor or Registry. The second part of internship programme for participants from Serbia will be organised at the War Crimes Chamber of the Belgrade District Court or at the Office of the War Crimes Prosecutor. Participants from Kosovo and Montenegro will be engaged in local institutions or organisations dealing with war crimes.

The Programme is open to graduate students and those who are in the final year of education with background in law, history, political science or humanities.
Applicants must be fluent in English and BCMS (required for participants from Kosovo as well), both written and oral.

The Regional Internship Programme participants will be provided with financial support, which will cover accommodation in the Hague, travel and insurance costs. They will also be provided with a scholarship on a monthly basis during the entire Programme.

The Regional Internship Programme is supported by the Swiss Confederation, represented by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
