Youth Initiative for Human Rights – Kosovo (YIHR KS) with the support of Civil Rights Defenders, as part of its Human Rights Program held two workshops with the Committees of the Assembly of Kosovo.

The first workshop took place on the 29th of May 2012 with deputies of the Committee on Human Rights, Gender Equality, Missing Persons and Petitions and the Committee on Rights, Interests of Communities and Return taking part. During this workshop a number of issues were considered including: consideration of the legal framework during drafting of laws and the problems encountered in implementing the Anti-Discrimination Law 2004. Additionally, opportunities of mechanisms to combat discrimination from the region and beyond were also discussed.

The second workshop took place on the 1st of October 2012 with deputies of Committee of European Integration. During this session there was an emphasis on anti-discrimination law in the European Union, challenges in implementation of anti-discrimination law in Kosovo and opportunities for effective mechanisms to combat anti-discrimination from the region and beyond.

YIHR KS is grateful for the support of Civil Rights Defenders in making this possible and to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Kosovo for their contribution in delivering both workshops. Despite not as many deputies attending, YIHR KS persisted with raising the issue of anti-discrimination law in Kosovo not being properly implemented and engaged in various discussions with the deputies present.
