The Children of War Museum Opening

We are deeply moved to announce the opening the Children of War Museum, an alternative space of remembrance dedicated to the children whose childhoods were disrupted in the unjust whirlwind of the war in Kosovo.

The museum emphasizes marginalized war experiences as a way to honor the past with dignity and bring symbolic justice by acknowledging these stories. After five years of tireless work, we opened the Children of War Museum with its first exhibition, “Play Interrupted,” which transported us back to the lives of children who survived the war – leading us through their experiences of fleeing, fear, hiding, play, and the complex emotions that only war can evoke.

This exhibition, and the museum as a whole, is above all a tribute to those who endured the horrors of war and survived, regardless of their ethnicity or background. For us at YIHR KS, sharing these stories holds special significance. These stories are not only about the past; they are also about our future, for it is only by acknowledging them that we can prevent their repetition.

We aim for this museum to be a space where silence is broken, forgetfulness is disrupted, and a powerful call for reflection, justice, and reconciliation is made.

Special thanks to those who honored us with their presence at the opening and contributed to the exhibition: artist Petrit Halilaj and poet Ervina Halili.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. The museum will remain open to the public.
