On Day 2 of Human Rights Week, we unveiled the report “Discriminatory Language in School Textbooks,” which provides an analysis of upper secondary level school textbooks in Kosovo, shining a light on the biases and harmful discriminatory narratives that persist in our education system. With insights from our keynote speakers and panelists, we discussed actionable ways to rewrite the story and ensure that our school textbooks reflect the values of equality and inclusion.
Special thanks to our speakers: Marigona Shabiu, Naim Qelaj, Mary Ann Hennessey, and to all the panelists; Habit Hajredini, Director of OGG; Luljeta Demolli, Executive Director, Kosovar Center for Gender Studies (KCGS); and Vjollca Krasniqi, Professor, University of Prishtina, for their expertise and commitment to this critical cause. A special acknowledgment to Blendë Pira from YIHR KS for moderating the discussion with such thoughtfulness and insight. Your voices are helping pave the way for a more equitable education system.
Education shapes the future, and together we can ensure it’s one built on justice, respect, and dignity for all.
