The Power of Narratives – Bridging Divides

The Power of Narratives – Bridging Divides in Kosovo’s Education System for Inclusive and Peaceful Inter-Ethnic Relations

In 2023, YIHR KS launched the Small Grants Scheme platform that fostered three inter-ethnic partnerships.

Our first Subgrantees are ETEA & CSAY!

ETEA & CSAY’s project focused on exploring the narrative of inter-ethnic relations between Kosovo-Albanians and Kosovo-Serbs as portrayed in schools, including the perceptions created by the portrayal of the other community in textbooks, curricula, and classroom practices.

The project team conducted qualitative research with high school students, teachers, and directors from Kosovo-Albanian and Kosovo-Serb communities. They concluded evidence-based policy recommendations and launched the report “The Power of Narratives: Book-based or Oral History – The Role of Education in Shaping the Perceptions of the Other.”

This report raises awareness of the negative impact of biased and stereotypical information on students’ attitudes and perceptions towards other ethnic communities. It also calls for a more inclusive and peaceful education system!
