Youth Initiative for Human Rights – Kosovo (YIHR KS) strongly condemns the terrorist attack that took place in Banjska in the early hours of the 24th of September 2023, which left police officer Afrim Bunjaku killed in the line of duty, and two others wounded and injured. Such acts that destabilize the security of the Republic of Kosovo, and worsen inter-ethnic tensions not only are unconstitutional and unlawful but an extreme setback for the security and well-being of all Kosovo citizens regardless of their ethnicity, and peace in the region. We call for a full and transparent investigation of the organized terrorist attack and punishment for the responsible actors and persons involved.

We are aware of an increasing mistrust and fear among the Kosovo population, especially among the Kosovo-Serb community, alongside the retraumatization of persons who experienced the last war in Kosovo.
